Check NZeTA Status

Check your NZeTA status

The NZeTA is an online travel authorisation that grants eligible foreign nationals permission to enter New Zealand.

Before embarking on a journey to the country, you may want to check your NZeTA status to make sure that it was approved and continues to be valid.

If you have applied for a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) via this site, you can check the status of their visa waiver online by following the instructions below.

Important: It is only possible to complete the check if you obtained your NZeTA through this website.

Why should I check my New Zealand eTA status?

Nationals of visa waiver countries must have a valid NZeTA before travelling to New Zealand. All passengers are advised to ensure that their passport and eTA are valid prior to departure.

Travellers who arrive at the New Zealand border without a valid eTA and an associated passport will not be permitted to enter the country.

You must meet the NZeTA requirements before starting the application process.

How can I check my visa waiver status for New Zealand (NZeTA)?

The processing time for a New Zealand eTA is generally very quick. Applicants usually receive their NZeTA within 3 days.

The approved eTA and all updates are sent by email. If 3 or more days have passed and you still have not received an email, you can contact us to request an update.

Please check your spam folder before sending a query.

Checking your NZeTA status online

NZeTA applicants can check the status of their Electronic Travel Authority by filling out a short contact form.

The following information will be requested in order to verify the user’s identity:

  • Full name (as it appears on the individual’s passport)
  • Passport number
  • Passport country
  • Email address

You should specify that you want to check the status of your submitted application. It is also recommended that you include your NZeTA reference number.

When you have submitted your query, a member of our customer service team will contact with within 72 hours with an update on your application.

How do I find my NZeTA reference number?

It is advisable to also state the reference number of the New Zealand eTA. This makes it easier to find the application.

Travellers can find their NZeTA reference number in the confirmation email they received after submitting their request.

Pending or approved NZeTA status

Once this information has been verified, the applicant will be sent an email detailing the current status of their NZeTA application, which may be listed as “approved” or “pending”.

“Pending” means that the traveller’s application is still being processed and that their information is currently under review.

The “pending” status rarely lasts longer than 72 hours, since the vast majority of NZeTA applications are processed within this time.

What is my New Zealand eTA expiry date?

The New Zealand travel authority is valid for 2 years from the date of approval.

When it is first authorised, the NZeTA is delivered by email. The email outlines the details of the New Zealand visa waiver, including the date of issue and the date of expiry.

The NZeTA is a multiple-entry travel permit. You can use the same document to visit New Zealand multiple times, providing it is still within the 2 years of validity.

How can I check the validity of my eTA NZ?

You can check the validity of your New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority by looking at your approval email, which will state the issue and expiry dates.

If you have lost the confirmation email, you can check the validity of a New Zealand eTA by completing the contact form and specifying the query.

Again, this is only possible for travellers who applied through this site.

You will receive an email which states whether the New Zealand visa waiver is still valid or if it has expired.

Is my NZeTA still valid if my passport has expired?

The New Zealand visa waiver is electronically linked to your passport. If your passport expires before your eTA expiry date, your travel authority is no longer valid.

If you have changed your passport, you must obtain a new NZeTA that is linked to your new passport.

Can I renew my NZeTA?

If a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority has expired, you can apply for a new one. The visa waiver is obtained in the same way as the original — by completing an NZeTA application form online.

You must also reapply for the NZeTA in the following circumstances:

  • Personal information has changed
  • You have a new passport

If you have any queries or doubts about the status of your travel authority for New Zealand, obtaining a new NZeTA, or any other issues please feel free to contact us.

Do I need a new NZeTA for each trip to New Zealand?

No, the NZeTA grants multiple entries to New Zealand during its 2-year validity period. The majority of travellers can spend up to 3 months in the country per visit. British citizens can spend up to 6 months at a time.

It is only necessary to apply for a new NZeTA when the last one expires.
